Colombia, Las Lajas Shrine & the Caribbean
Day 1: Arrival in Bogotá,
Arrive in Colombia's capital, Bogota. Transfer to your hotel. Free time to acclimatize, get used to the altitude, and relax. Dinner and overnight in Bogota.
Day 2: Bogotá & Monserrate,
Breakfast. Visit the impressive Gold Museum, with region's finest collection of gold from pre-Hispanic times. Walk under the balconied houses through the colourful colonial streets of La Candelaria district to the main square, Bolivar Plaza, with Cathedral Primada. In the afternoon take a cable car (funicular) up Cerro de Monserrate with its Basilica of the Fallen Lord (Señor Caído). Admire gorgeous views over the entire city from one of Bogota’s highest hills. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Zipaquirá and Chiquinquirá, Villa de Leyva,
Breakfast. Travel 1h north to Zipaquirá. Tour the majestic Cathedral, built inside of the one of the largest salt-rock deposits on earth, an architectural marvel featuring 180 m underground Stations of the Cross. Continue north to Chiquinquirá, home to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, which houses the miraculous, restored image of Colombia’s patroness. Continue to one of the most charming cities of Colombia, Villa de Leyva for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Villa de Leyva,
Breakfast. Explore one of Colombia's best-preserved colonial towns. Visit the Parish Church, the Carmen Sanctuary, and the Monastery of Ecce Homo (a 17th-century Dominican monastery). Enjoy the afternoon soaking in the town's rich spiritual and historical atmosphere tasting wine from local viñedos. Dinner and overnight in Villa de Leyva.
Day 5: Villa de Leyva - Bogota - Pasto,
Breakfast. Transfer to the capital to take a quick flight to Pasto. On Your way stop for a short visit to the Santa Clara church, Bogota’s oldest temple and one of the most richly decorated in the country and the Divine Child Parish Sanctuary, where you will find a wooden statue of the child Jesus, one of the most popular religious images in Colombia, claimed to have miraculous powers of fertility and healing. Dinner and overnight in beautiful Andean city of Pasto, the capital of Nariño department.
Day 6: The Sanctuary of Las Lajas - Pasto,
Breakfast. Ride scenic road around 2.5 hours through mountainous landscapes to visit the breathtaking Sanctuary of Our Lady of Las Lajas, frequently voted one of the world’s most beautiful temples, built over a majestic canyon. Discover and enjoy this neo-gothic masterpiece built directly inside a 50-meter-tall bridge crossing the Guáitara River. In the afternoon visit the Tulcan Cemetery, the most impressive Latin American graveyard, famous for its topiary art. Dinner and overnight in Pasto.
Day 7, Pasto - Cartagena,
Breakfast. Travel to the airport and fly to Cartagena, UNESCO heritage city on the shores of Colombia's Caribbean Sea. Transfer to Your hotel. In the afternoon take a chance to see the cobblestone streets and colonial convents of the old walled town. Dinner and Overnight in Cartagena.
Day 8, Cartagena,
Breakfast. Discover this Pearl of the Caribbean on a city tour starting at La Popa monastery from where you can view whole Cartagena. Walk through Historical Center, passing Torre del Reloj and Plaza de la Aduana, the place used for slave trade during the Colonial period, and Plaza Bolivar to San Pedro Claver church and Inquisition Museum. Enjoy free afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Cartagena.
Day 9, Cartagena,
Breakfast. Transfer to Cartagenas dock to take a covered boat to an amazing turquoise waters archipelago of Rosario Islands. Leisure and enjoy the Caribbean beach, with lunch and open bar drinks on the white sand near the sea. Dinner and overnight in Cartagena.
Day 10, Cartagena - Departure,
Breakfast and free time. Drive to Cartagena's Rafael Nunez International Airport accompanied by your guide to board your departure flight according to flight itinerary.
